WSB was broadcasting Action News this morning from their newsroom. Could it be that a new set is being constructed! We can only hope that they are. I would imagine this would be an HD set since sister station WFTV in Orlando is doing HD news. I would imagine new graphics and possibly new music would be on the way. I would really like them to adopt a new music package. This is all GOOD NEWS nonetheless...

I'm hoping that WSB-TV could and might be considering the move to broadcast news in HD, like sister station WFTV, and rival station WXIA.
If HD is coming to WSB-TV's news department. I'm hoping it'll come with new graphics, and a new set design... and new theme music. I'd like very much for WSB-TV to dump their current theme music already... "News 2000" by Music Partners, and replace it with something that would sound quite nice, like... "Metropolis" by Stephen Arnold Music. Just a thought.

Yesterday, it would appear that WSB-TV was broadcasting their newscast from the newsroom. Today... It would appear that WSB-TV has either redressed the set backdrop... or built a temporary make-shift set, with a newer looking skykline portrait backdrop. I really can't tell.
11Alive is currently the first and only Atlanta station offering news in HD. WSB-TV becoming the second station to offer news in HD is still being speculated. WAGA-TV is expected to unveil the new FOX O&O graphics, theme music, and set design in the coming weeks or months.
I like the Giant Octopus graphics that KHOU is currently using... I'm hoping that WSB-TV plans to dump the current graphics very soon. Plus, I wish they dump the current "News 2000" theme already, and replace it with a better sounding theme... Again, I believe "Metropolis" would be a great theme for them. And, WSB-TV retiring the skyline portrait backdrop for something better... like a video wall backdrop, similar to what ABC News has for their World News Tonight, World News Now, and World News This Morning broadcasts. Just my 2 cents.

A blue backdrop? Is that it?
Seems like WXIA cut into WSB's numbers a bit in July with the new set, so WSB better do something.
Not sure if a blue set is the answer.

It was rumored that either WSB-TV or Cox sister station KTVU (San Francisco, CA) would have been first to begin broadcasting news in HD. Instead, WFTV/WRDQ (Orlando, FL) took the top honor of becoming the first Cox O&O station to broadcast news in HD.
I'm guessing that WSB-TV is getting tired of the Cox philosophy... "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I wonder when WSB-TV plans on debuting their news in HD?
When WFTV/WRDQ (Orlando, FL) debuted their news in HD, their rival stations (WESH, WKMG, and WOFL) felt the ratings sucker punch hit them hard.
If WSOC/WAXN (Charlotte, NC) is to become the 1st Charlotte station to debut their news in HD... you can bet that their rival stations (WBTV/WJZY, WCCB, and WCNC) will really feel the ratings sucker punch.
If WPXI (Pittsburgh, PA) is to become the 1st Pittsburgh station to debut their news in HD... you can bet their rival stations (KDKA/WPCW, WPGH, and WTAE) will feel the sucker punch too.

Looks like the temporary set is still being used...I think the longer they go without the new set being ready, the larger it will be. I am not sure if they are going to build a set as big as WXIA's or if it will be more like WFTV's in Orlando. With Giant Octopus creating the new graphics, they should be great. I am just hoping that they get rid of that cheezy music and change to a new package. It's been many years since WSB has used a good music package.

Does anyone know when they're debuting the new look? Perhaps I should email Channel 2 and ask...

And by the way: Channel 2's sister station in Charlotte, NC (WSOC 9) is getting a new set as well. On their website they have a slideshow with pictures of their former set and the temporary one. They're saying that it could take between 6 and 7 weeks before construction is complete and they begin broadcasting from the new set! www.wsoctv.com/station/9675400/detail.htmlWhy doesn't channel 2 have a webpage like this?

The top-rated WFTV/WRDQ (Orlando, FL) debuted their news in HD back in June, and you bet their rival stations (WESH, WKMG, and WOFL) really felt the ratings sucker punch. If WSOC/WAXN (Charlotte, NC) is planning on debuting their news in HD... you can bet their rival stations (WBTV, WCCB, and WCNC) will really feel the ratings sucker punch.
Sept. 13... WNBC (New York City, NY), which is a NBC O&O station will be debuting their news in HD. On that very same day, NBC debuts the top-rated Today show in HD, as well as will be debuting Meredith Vieira as co-host.
Gannett currently has 6 station offering news in HD, which is currently the most number of stations broadcasting news in HD, by any television broadcasting group, as of now. Those stations are... KARE (Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN), KSDK (St. Louis, MO), KUSA (Denver, CO), WKYC (Cleveland, OH), WUSA (Washington, DC), and WXIA (Atlanta, GA). If Gannett is planning more HD produced newscasts, I'm predicting KPNX (Phoenix, AZ), KXTV (Sacramento, CA), and WTSP (Tampa-St. Petersburg, FL) could and might be next in line.

I noticed the past few days, that WSB is showing more of their set than before, but the camera is still not panning out all the way. Now they can show the sports anchor and the main anchors at the same time. When they do zoom out, the background looks similar to WFTV's HD set. While WFTV has a nice looking set, I am kind of hoping that WSB's new set will be a larger set like WXIA's. Since they have been working on it for almost a month with and still haven't advertised the debut of HD news, I am hopeful that a larger set is being built. I am kind of surprised that they haven't advertised anything considering that they shouldn't be too far away from completion.
And once again, WSB please change your music! We have had enough of the bongo drums and cow bells!

OMG this is taking forever!!!
Okay, so it's not that serious, but still... I'm hoping that the wait will be worth it. Honestly, I'm not a fan of WFTV's set (it's nice enough, but very blah), and WSOC's set isn't looking too hot at the moment (according to the latest construction pics I've seen). I hope that Channel 2 has something that's unique, large, versatile, and classy: something that really stands out in our market. Channel 5's set, although it's 8 years old, still looks great (it would be a shame if it's replaced with one of those ugly Fox O&O sets). Channel 11's set is pretty good, but it still feels lacking. And channel 46, well...

It does seem like its taking forever. We'd really like to see WSB-TV unveil a new set design and new graphics already... as well as some new theme music too.
I'm guessing that FOX 5 could and might soon be getting myFOX set design, graphics, and theme music in the coming weeks or months.
I really can't tell if CBS 46's set is HD ready or not. I'm hoping that a new HD ready set design could and might be in the works for them in 2007.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) is THE BIG DAY.
WSB will launch HD news with a state of the art HD set and weather center.
Cameras will be HD, towercams are HD, helicopter is HD, weather is HD!
Its going to leap-frog WXIAs HD effort big time.
WSB proves once again to be the market leader.
By the way, I don't understand all the interest in the music. Who cares?

WSB-TV has been using their current theme for the past 8 years... "News 2000" by Music Partners. IMO. I'd really like to hear something better than what they have now. I believe "Metropolis" by Stephen Arnold Music would sound like a great theme.

The new newscast looks great IMO!
- The open is great, one of the best I have seen. Giant Octopus deserves an A+ - The set looks good, while not as big as WXIA's, I think it looks sleeker than the HD Set for sister station WFTV in Orlando. - The graphics look great. Great job Giant Octopus! - The music is still the same...Wish they would have changed, but maybe they will do like WXIA and change a few months after the launch of HD.

The set and graphics look very nice. Not that I like to be negative. WSB-TV must really love that "News 2000" theme, which they've been using for the past 8 years. (knock on wood) I really wish WSB-TV would get new theme music already... something that sounds better than what they're using now.

I agree. It's time for Stephen Arnold's music to be heard in Atlanta! Metropolis would sound great with their new open. Evolution (KHOU's current theme) would ge good as well.

I like the new open. It is good. However, I wish they had kept their helicopter in the open. I like the set, however it looks almost the same as their old one. As for the music, if you recall....when they changed their logo last time to the present "2" and previous news open, they did not change their music right off either. They updated their graphics and logo, then after 6 months to a year, they changed their music all of a sudden.
I bet they'll do the same here. Personally, I like the News 2000 music. It is edgy. I don't particularly care for the cut they chose to use in their HD open.
Just my thoughts.

Again, old news... I wish WSB-TV would dump that "News 2000" theme already. Not that I like to be negative, and not that I like to criticize... IMO, it has served the purpose for the last 8 years.
I'm liking the newly madeover set, and the new graphics. As for the theme music... I believe it's time for something better and/or different than what they have now.
