NBC made history earlier tonight (March 26), by introducing Nightly News with Brian Williams in HD. It becomes the first ever network evening news program to be produced and broadcasted in HD.
Other network news programs that have since moved in the direction of HD include...
Good Morning America debuted in HD on November 1, 2005. It made history as the first network morning news program to go HD.
The Today Show debuted in HD on Sept. 13, 2006... the same day that Meredith Vieira debuted as co-host of the top-rated morning program. Later this year, NBC will be expanding the morning program to 4 hours, by cancelling the low-rated soap opera Passions. The move to 4 hours has received mixed reviews.
Rumors are circulating that Atlanta-based CNN is pondering producing all news programs in HD, sometime this year.
On the local levels... Approx. 35 television stations across the nation are now producing local newscasts in HD. Gannett owned 11Alive and MyATL TV... and Cox owned WSB-TV are among those approx. 35 television stations.
