My favorite Augusta tv station is WAGT. I guess I like the underdog. What is your favorite Augusta TV station and why?

I would like to comment, but I'm not at all familiar with the Augusta market, so I can't...

I have only seen WAGT's news a couple times while visiting relatives in Newberry County, South Carolina. I think ALL of the Augusta stations run circles around those in Macon or Albany.
Although I grew up in Florida, I spent my summers in South Carolina and all relatives had large rooftop antennas with rotators and always had a clear signal of stations in Augusta, Greenville-Spartanburg and Columbia (which was considered "local" for Newberry County)
So I remember watching cartoons like Tom and Jerry and Bugs Bunny on WAGT in the afternoons in the days LONG before they had newscasts. They actually had "The Flintstones" on at 6pm before NBC news with John Chancellor at 6:30
(Oh god I am so dating myself by remembering that)
This was "back in the day" when Augusta like many areas only had three local channels and maybe PBS.
On to the present.....WAGT's news anchor Shannon Myers is one of the former reporter/weekend anchors at WMAZ in Macon. She was here for maybe a year in the late 1990's. She was known here as Shannon Espinosa.
I also like WAGT's studio location in downtown Augusta. It appears to have been a former department store or maybe a "five and dime" type store. And WAGT has a nice storefront.
I don't know if they have one of those sidewalk studios like the Today show and many other NBC affiliates around the country, but it sounds like a cool idea if they did. They certainly have the location for it.
WJBF.... My earliest memory of channel 6 is when they simply called their newscast "The News". And their news theme was the same as the ABC network news at the time (late 70's). They later called their program "Newswatch 6" and now "NewsChannel 6"
WRDW. I never knew until a few years ago that their studios were actually in South Carolina. And last I drove past there (2004) I noticed the studio building still sported the old logo from the early 1980's. And it was a big complex.
My relatives in South Carolina used to watch WRDW "Eyewitness News" after watching shows like "Dallas". And I was visiting my Aunt when we watched the famous "Who shot JR" episode in 1980. We were watching channel 12.
I could always tell that WRDW was a very strong local TV station in Augusta.

I keep up with various TV stations, via their web-sites...
WJBF... Recently, I suggested the idea to them of producing "FOX 54 NEWS AT TEN" for WFXG. In other words, a news partnership agreement. Within 2-3 months, it debuted. I've even suggested the idea to them in e-mails to expand their morning newscast to 2 hours, which they did. As for beginning a weekend morning newscast, I'm still praying and hoping it'll come around. I'm trying to convince them to ditch their current theme music and introduce something new.
WRDW... I'm hoping they'll expand their 5pm and 6pm newscast into the 5:30pm half-hour. I'd really like to see them pick up "Live with Regis and Kelly".
WAGT... Since 1995, it would look like their newscast product has really matured. I'm hoping that a 4pm newscast and the "NBC Weather Plus" digital subchannel could and might be in their near-to-mid future.

Marci Burdick, the president of the television divsion of Schurz Communications is now the NBC affiliates president. She was also the GM for WAGT before being moved to corporate. NBC affiliates association came up with NBC Weather Plus in partnership with NBC. I can bet that WAGT will have "NBC Weather Plus" soon. I also know that they are looking for an anchor to work on an expasion newscast. So, maybe they will get a 4pm newscast.

NEWS SET Ratings:
1) WJBF - I like their new set. It looks good. They have a great weather set. In all, way better than their old set. 2)WAGT - they have always had a good looking set - I like the new addition behind the anchors and the new V-Wall. Need a new updated weather set! 3)WRDW - their new set look almost like their old one

It would also seem like a weekend morning newscast is missing from the Augusta market. I'm praying and hoping that WJBF could and might be considering plans to begin a new weekend morning newscast, and perhaps be the only station in Augusta to offer it.
3 TV markets in and around Georgia also missing weekend morning newscasts. Chattanooga, Tennessee... Columbus, Georgia... and Albany, Georgia.
Chattanooga. I'm praying and hoping that WRCB could and might be considering a new weekend morning newscast.
Columbus. I'm not too sure. Either WRBL or WTVM. It all depends.
Albany. I'm praying and hoping that WALB could and might be considering a new weekend morning newscast.
Greenville, SC/Ashville, NC... WYFF offers a weekend morning newscast. I'm praying and hoping that WLOS could and might be looking into expanding their Saturday morning newscast into Sunday morning.
Savannah, GA... WTOC offers a Saturday morning newscast. I'm praying and hoping they could and might be looking into expanding it into Sunday morning.

WAGT has made some minor set changes since its logo change. Since the change, it has replaced it Video wall with a newer one and put one behind the anchors. It has also updated the weather center. Recent changes include some newly painted walls on the set that match colors in the open and logo. Looks great!

Trent Butler's bio is already on WAGT's website. Jim Pinkerton's is not on WSBT's website which is WAGT's sister station in South Bend, IN. He is supposed to be going back to work there.
