Media General announces that WDEF-12 (CBS) of Chattanooga will be sold to MORRIS MULTIMEDIA of Savannah, Ga. Morris owns WMGT-41 (NBC) "todays MGT" in Macon. Morris recently purchased a Media General station (WWAY-3 ABC) in Wilimgton North Carolina. Media General has had to sell some of its stations to comply with federal regulations after purchasing four stations owned by NBC. Those NBC stations were in Birmingham (WVTM-13), Providence (WJAR-10), Raleigh (WNCN-17) and Columbus Ohio (WCMH-4). Stations serving Georgia that Media General currently owns are WDEF Chattanooga, WNEG-32 in Tocooa, WJBF-6 in Augusta, WRBL-3 in Columbus, WCWJ-17 in Jacksonville, WSPA-7 in Spartanburg and WSAV-3 in Savannah. This week, Media General announced the sale of stations in Kansas (KWCH-12 and 4 Satelite stations in the state), Iowa (KIMT), Birmingham (WIAT-42) and Chattanooga (WDEF). KWCH, and the 3 KBS satellite stations... KBSD, KBSH, and KBSL are being sold to Schurz Communications. The same company that owns WAGT (NBC 26) in Augusta.
KIMT and WIAT are being sold to New Vision.
WWAY was sold to Morris, due to the merging of Raycom Media and Liberty Corporation. Raycom and Liberty chose WECT over WWAY.
WYCW... WSPA's sister station is also owned by Media General.
