It appears that WPGA channel 58 is rolling out a new branding from "58abc"to "ABC Macon".
This is strange for a station whos call letters match the co-owned radio station named for the original home of PERRY GEORGIA (PGA)
The station is starting a newscast on Monday 7/23 called "ABC Macon News". The newscast will mostly be outsourced.

Will WPGA's "ABC Macon News" survive?
From 2000 thorugh 2003... WPGA had a short-lived news broadcast, which saw very low ratings.
By observing the competition...
WMAZ is very well established with the Middle Georgia audience. Currently has a top-rated local news broadcast.
WMGT (formerly WCWB) is the 2nd oldest television station in the Middle Georgia area. Up until 1992, offered local news broadcasts, which saw poor ratings, techical snafus, and budget shortfalls. In 2004, local news returned to the NBC affiliate after a long 12-year hiatus.
WGXA started off as an ABC affiliate in 1982, and has offered local news since the stations inception. Since the ABC/FOX affiliation change-over in 1996, and the rebirth of local news at rival WMGT, ratings have dropped slightly... on top of that, WGXA's parent company Piedmont Communications imposing budget cuts on the station.
This is what I've observed.

Ugh... this station just makes me crazy. I was thinking that if they had their cast piped in, it would have some really good-looking anchors. Instead, well, you get what you pay for, I guess.
Plus, the music makes me absolutely nuts. They could at least go to DigitalJuice.com and buy one of their corporate/news disks and use that. It is so obnoxious.
I too heard that Jami was there, but I haven't seen hide nor hair of her. Her picture, the last time I checked, wasn't even online.
