I just read on the TVSpy watercooler that WGCL has fired Rich Noonan (possible contract dispute). None of this information has been substantiated, but I thought I'd pass it along nonetheless...

One can only hope that this is true.

Was race an issue? According to a few TVSpy posters, it was. But have serious doubts about that, especially considering Rich's past history: www.ajr.org/Article.asp?id=2629CBS46 has gone through a lot of male anchors in the past few years: Rich Noonan, Tony Harris, Calvin Hughes, Steve Johns, Chris McWatt... NO stability.

CBS46 has gone through a lot of male anchors in the past few years: Rich Noonan, Tony Harris, Calvin Hughes, Steve Johns, Chris McWatt... NO stability. I'm not surprised. Lately, it would seem like they've been hiring talent over the past several years that would be considered not to be DMA#9 material (as some or most would consider)... and letting a lot of good talent slip away. Lori Wilson was recently let go. She had been at CBS 46 for 3 years. From October, 2002 until February, 2005, served as morning anchor. Then 46 canceled the morning newscast, and demoted her. From March, 2005 until October, 2005, served as weekend anchor. As some may speculate... Who'll be next to walk the plank?

Both NewsBlues and FTVLive are reporting that Meredith has optioned out of his 5-year deal (he still has 3 years left!). Many are speculating that he will be replaced by an African American male. So let the speculations begin! 1. Mike Moore: an obvious in-house choice. Current weekend anchor at 46. But he is a newbie in the market with very little name recognition... 2. Ken Watts: remember him? He's the guy that was uncerimoniously cut from mornings at 11Alive. He's a proven veteran with decades spent in Atlanta as an anchor and reporter. Very solid and well liked by the community (my choice!) 3. Roy Hobbs: the last I heard, he was toiling away in Kansas City. He had a good run as the 5pm co-anchor at FOX5 and he was a solid reporter. He didn't leave the market on bad terms and a return to Atlanta may not be out the question for him. As some may speculate... Who'll be next to walk the plank? There's been talk for some years now that Gil Tyree has wanted to make a move back to Phoenix, AZ. I think he's probably next in line to leave. Although I wouldn't be opposed to it, I doubt that we'll see a newscast permanently anchored by all African-Americans (which would be the case at 6pm w/ Cynee, Mike(?) Gene, and Gil. There would be changes somewhere on the anchor desk to diversify if they do replace Rich with a black man. Just my $0.02

Not too long ago, WGCL dumped 2 of their meteorologists. John Wetherbee, sometimes credited as "Big John". He's still here in Atlanta as meteorologist for Clear Channel radio... WGST 640 (NewsRadio/BravesRadio 640), 94.9 Lite FM, and 96 Rock.
Veteran meteorologist John Doyle. Previously worked at FOX 5 (during the CBS era), before jumping over to 46.
Then 46 decided to cancel the morning newscast (or put it on hiatus), they dumped several of their anchors and reporters. Including Charles Molineaux (now at FOX 5), Tiffani Diaz Reynolds (now at WSB-TV), Kathy Murphy, and Stacey Turner. Demoted Lori Wilson to weekends, before she decided to leave. Marc Mullins (now at KMTR-TV) and Greg Pallone (now at WJCL-TV) left shortly afterward.
To add to the speculation. Who else could be next in line to walk the plank? For quite some time, I've been pondering that weekend sports anchor Mark Harmon could possibly be next to leave 46. We never know.

I'm guessing Mike Moore to take Rich's place as anchor.

As of late, I notice that Stephany and Cynne' have been co-anchoring CBS 46's 4pm, 6pm, and 11pm newscasts. I can picture former FOX 5 alum Roy Hobbs co-anchoring the evening newscasts at CBS 46. I doubt he'll be coming back to Atlanta anytime soon.
I came across a NewsBlues.com headline a few days ago. Tuesday, June 4 headline read...
Atlanta station interviews Lexington anchor replacement.
I'm guessing it could be a CBS 46 related headline. Then again, I could be wrong. We'll just have to wait and see what comes next.
