Bill Gaines, who was an anchor at WMAZ-13 (CBS) in Macon in the mid 1990's was fired from WNCN-17 (NBC) in Raleigh, North Carolina. New owners Media General removed Bill Gaines effective immediately (citing low ratings) although his contract was due to expire in October. He was with the station for 7 years WNCN was formerly owned by NBC and is one of many NBC O&O's recently sold to Media General. In Macon, Bill Gaines was an anchor of " Eyewitness News Mornin'" weekdays on WMAZ The news article www.newsobserver.com/167/story/479253.htmlPersonal Note: I often met Bill Gaines when he was on WMAZ in Macon. He was a frequent customer of a store where I worked part time and would stop in while jogging. He usually bought bottled water or a sports drink. He was very into working out in his spare time. He came to Macon from Houston, TX and WMAZ was one of his first TV jobs at nearly age 40.
