WMAZ-13 (CBS) in Macon has debuted their new studio set for "13WMAZ Eyewitness News"
It is darker than the previous set. The new set has cherry and oak wood with purple trimmings and back wall.
The anchor desk has a front neon blue lighted background with the station's logo etched on glass that is arched outward from the desk with wood panels on each side, two silver strips under the logo and a purple base that turns inward under the logo.
Behind the anchor desk is the same pathetic fake newsroom mural that this station installed on the previous set many years ago as an "update" to the ugly old beige studio. There is a modern mural of a goldish huge number 13 on the side.
You really did not get to see too many angles of this new set while watching the noon newscast, but this set has been under construction for a couple of weeks.
The "Weather Center" has several flat screen TV monitors on the wall behind a purple background. You see the back a couple of flat screen computer monitors on the Weather Center desk and on the front of the desk is a wood panel with gold lettering "Weather Center". The top of the weather center desk appears to be granite.
In the distant background over the Weather Center is a long thin version of the old "13WMAZ Eyewitness News" logo.
Same old graphics and news music. Same music this station has used for at least as long as I have lived here (over 12 years now) which I believe is called the WWL News package (WWL New Orleans)
Soon the station will be getting a new female co-anchor to replace Lori Johnson who left the station in December. Her name is Leah Johnson and she is coming from WSPA in Spartanburg. No word on when she will start at WMAZ. Hopefully when she arrives there will be new graphics and finally some new music for this newscast.
Any improvements in the Macon area were much needed and are appreciated, but I wish they would get rid of that fake "newsroom/control room" background. It really seems silly to have that when they often cut to their actual newsroom for reporters and guest interviews.
And WMGT also needs to get rid of their fake "control room" mural. We already know that station is no where near as big as the mural suggests.
