Am I the only one that would like to see a newscast on WATL?
I want to see something young & fun instead of the typical boring stuff we see in Atlanta.
When WATL becomes an independent later this year, do you think this could open the doors for a newscast?

You're not the only 1 that would like to see a newscast on WATL. I wouldn't mind WATL beginning a news broadcast of their own either. Right now, FOX 5 is currently the only 10pm newscast in the Atlanta market.
I still remember... April, 2004 until August, 2005, 11Alive and UPN Atlanta had that news partnership agreement, and FOX 5 wasn't the only 10pm newscast. I quite liked the 10pm newscast that 11Alive produced for UPN Atlanta. I really miss it... and I miss the "Atlanta Tonight" program that followed the newscast.
A while back (about a year ago), I had e-mailed the station about beginning a news broadcast. In reply e-mails I received from them, their response was that the station wasn't interested in beginning a news broadcast at that particular time. I'm hoping that changes could and might be coming to WATL in the near-to-mid future for them.

Well sorry to break the news to you, but don't expect much from WATL. Being owned by Tribune and with Tribune closing news depts in Philly, San Diego don't expect them to start a news operation in Atlanta. Also with The WB and UPN merging to become one network together. WATL will lose some good lead-ins if they had 10pm news without a network.

I heard about the news department operations at WPHL (in Philly) being shut down after 11 years. Now, WCAU is producing their 10pm newscast.
Right now, it would appear that there's much specualtion about Tribune's news department operations, like WLVI (in Boston). It would appear that news department staff at the Tribune O&O WB affiliates are walking on eggshells. I now notice that KSND is producing the 10pm newscast, and their morning newscast is a simulcast of KTLA. This is my take on the situation.
Sinclair Broadcasting Group has shut down news department operations at FOX, UPN, and WB affiliates in Birmingham, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, etc. WPXI (in Pittsburgh) is now producing WPHG's 10pm newscast... WIAT (in Birmingham) is now producing WTTO's 9pm newscast. Rumblings are going about that WTTA (in Tampa-St. Petersburg) will likely be losing its news department later this year.

I nearly forgot about 3 more Tribune newscasts that could also be under specualtion too. KWGN (in Denver), KPLR (in St. Louis) and KDAF (in Dallas-Ft. Worth).

I guess I just want to see something new & fresh.. I'm tired of watching the same thing everyday.
