Back in June, it was announced that Tribune was selling ownership of WATL to Gannett. Now, the ownership transition is complete.

Accord to Wikipedia the deal became final on August 7 and also the station will brand as "My Atl TV" on September 1, 2006. The station will also begin airing a 10 p.m. newscast produced by WXIA with date to be announced. I guess it will be like Columbus WTVM and WXTX. WTVM produce a 10 p.m. newcast for WXTX FOX 54.

Has the management of WXIA learned anything from the last news they produced for another station? (WUPA's short lived 10pm news) Like the highly successful competition at 10pm from FOX 5. It would be hard to challenge that especially when you have a popular network program on WXIA (like "ER") to compete with. The Columbus situation is much different. Fox 54 is the first and only 10pm news in the market.

I'm aware that the WUPA newscast didn't quite workout for WXIA. UPN Atlanta News At Ten and Atlanta Tonight being cancelled... I thought that was a real bummer. Maybe a WATL newscast could and might be in the works. It be produced in HD, like the other WXIA newscasts. It not struggle in the ratings, like the WUPA newscast did.
Just my 2 cents.
